100 movies: Reservoir Dogs

100 movies of 2012

Every year I set myself a target, usually of about 100, of films to watch. These are new films. Not new, new films. But films that are new to me. Any time I’ve seen a new one, I post a bit of a brain dump of my thoughts on the film here. Enjoy!

Reservoir DogsReservoir Dogs (25/02/12)

After a simple jewelery heist goes terribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant.

I’m doing my best to educate myself on films I really should have seen by now. Enter Reservoir Dogs.

After watching this film I really wish Quentin Tarantino would make more films like this than the stuff he does now. I have respect for the films he’s made. I love Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds and no denying the fact that I’m pretty excited about Django Unchained. I just loved the simplicity of Reservoir Dogs.

Simple yes, but so well executed. Suspicion and paranoia just gets under your skin. Pretty much the whole film taking place in one place with the actors just getting to really get their teeth into the script. Really loved it. Though, I feel like I need to watch it again.

So, Quentin, if you’re reading this – fancy making anything like this again? I will be eagerly awaiting.

  1. Love this movie. It has been years since I have seen it, but I would still put it up there with Pulp Fiction as one of Tarantino’s best.

  2. Everything about this movie has become a classic. It’s pretty mind blowing the influence this movie had when it’s all said and done. Heck, was Michael Madsen ever remotely as cool as he was in this flick? 🙂

    • I can confirm that Michael Madsen has definitely not been nearly as cool as he was here. Not even in Free Willy.

  3. It might not be original but this remains one of Tarantino’s best films. Great performances and a top-notch script.
