100 movies: Love and Other Drugs

100 movies of 2012

Every year I set myself a target, usually of about 100, of films to watch. These are new films. Not new, new films. But films that are new to me. Any time I’ve seen a new one, I post a bit of a brain dump of my thoughts on the film here. Enjoy!

Love and Other DrugsLove and Other Drugs (15/03/12)

A woman suffering from Parkinson’s befriends a drug rep working for Pfizer against 1990s Pittsburgh backdrop.

I can’t say that this film was interesting, moving or particularly anything. It filled a couple of hours during the day. Jake was good. Anne was good. Found Josh Gad totally annoying and completely unnecessary.

Maybe I’m being too cold about this film. It was vaguely interesting. A young woman having to face a slowly degenerating life. I did put myself in her shoes and to be honest, I think she was handling it better than I ever would!

Jake and Anne worked well together. Believable chemistry. The ending had everything tied up fairly neatly. A little predictable. Though, it was the only way the film could have gone. Right?

Finding it hard to think of anything to write anything else about this film – a clear sign that this film made absolutely no impact on me!
Rating: 2/5

  1. Love and Other Drugs really fell flat for me. The chemistry was believable between the two leads, and I thought Anne gave a nice performance, but nothing groundbreaking. I felt like the sex actually took over the film and didn’t play well to the point of the movie. The movie felt like it was almost lost in itself, pointlessly adding scenes that were unnecessary and did nothing for the moving of the plot. Well said, Jaina.

    • It felt like a never ending barrage at one point. The sex scenes began to feel so unnecessary at one point because there were so many of them! I’m no prude but really?

  2. I started watching this last night, and will be watching the rest later. Saw a lot more of Anne Hathaway than I was expecting! But yeah, half way in, and my thoughts on the film seem to be on the same page as yours.

    • Yes! Anne has her baps out a whole lot more than I was expecting too! It’s a very passable film, which is a shame, because the leads are so strong.

    • I think I shared that feeling after I saw it. I knew I was confused about something at the end… think you nailed it!

  3. Yup, this movie was pretty forgettable. Lots of eye candy, but it was way too long for what it was. And yeah, Josh Gad was insanely annoying in this.
