  1. I don’t know, I’m always kind of bemused by Shakespeare adaptations that put the setting in the modern day but keep the language. “Let’s make it relatable! But keep the least relatable part!”

    • Think that’s why I love those sorts of Shakespeare adaptations. Or rather, love the other major one – Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet. There’s a flow to the language that can be so jarring if it’s not conveyed the right way. And in R+J at least, they get the rhythm and flow right.

Joss has a thing with Shakespeare – so many stories of having various TV show and film cast members at his place and they just recite Shakespeare. So I don’t doubt he’ll do a great job here.

  2. Jealous of those who have seen this too! This looks good Jaina, hope it gets a decent release here in my neck of the woods.

    • The trailer itself is not great. It’s got a lot of flack from the Internets. Overly edited and very poor choice of music IMO. Apparently the film is nothing like the trailer. Shame when they can’t get the trailer right.

  3. Hi, Jaina:

I’m really liking the B&W French New Wave look, sounds and Whedon’s clumsy slips and goof ups for giggles tone of “Much Ado…’.

I’m a big Amy Acker fan. So I’m curious to see how it stacks up to Brannagh’s color splashed gem. Also having access to every available Whedon-ite doesn’t hurt either!

    • That is true. Every single Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse fan will watch this just because! Which is kind of an amazing thing to have behind you, for Joss.

  4. Not sure about this one. Whedon is a better writer than he is a director so straight away I see a problem with using Shakespeare’s play. I’m guessing this film will be black and white as per the trailer? If it is, I can’t understand why he’s chosen to go down that route.

    • I believe the black and white has got to do with budget. He had to use locations he could use for free/cheap, but sometimes they’d be the wrong colour etc. So cheap way to get around it? Black and white.

Definitely think Joss is a better writer than director. But he’s got a way with the actors he’s chosen for this. Mostly from previous projects and the like. He knows how to get the best out of them.

  5. I just popped in from Fogs Link Bomb, I hope to make it back here again. I love the idea of a B & W film.
