Feeling the need to simplify

Canny readers (And those who read on the blog rather than through an RSS reader.) might have been super aware and noticed Time Well Spent has got a new look.

I felt like a bit of a change here – make things easier for the reader. So I opted for the default WordPress theme – Twenty Fifteen. Truthfully, I’ve been considering going default for a few months. Growing restless with the old theme by Elmastudio (Who makes fantastically beautiful themes and you should go buy from her.). Not that there was anything wrong with it, but sometimes you just feel like a change.

Why the default theme? Yes, there’s nothing outwardly special about it. The typography is something special though. It’s so damned easy to read! But what I really like about it is that it puts the focus squarely on the content. That’s going to be my challenge going forward. Making my content speak volumes, rather than the window dressing. The content being photos and whatever I choose to write about.

What could go wrong?

  1. It’s a stunning theme and I can’t believe it’s the default. Maybe because it’s really different than the previous “twenty” themes or you just customized it so much that it looks different. Any way you slice it, I like it!

    • It’s very different from the usual default “twenty” themes. Really enjoy using it. Though it’s taking me a while to get used to and sometimes I feel like falling back on my “usual” theme!

  2. Nothing wrong with this look. In the end it is all about the content….just look at Michael Bay movies….they look pretty, but their core is empty….

  3. Great plan! I love the new layout. I agree that the focus is definitely on the content. Sometimes you just need a change, and hey, change can be great!

  4. I’m a fan of the simple. I use the wordpress.com site, and I gather you use the wordpress.org – but I’m not as savvy as you. What I love about yours is that you are able to put your icons/account (twitter, g+) etc in such a clean manner. I can’t seem to find that option in mine!! So I am a little jealous 😉 Great new look.

    • Haha, that’s a bit of a cheat – it’s a built in feature of the theme – the social icons! In the past I’ve always chosen themes which have those sort of features nicely built in.

      • Is it a widget then? I don’t see any widgets available to have the links that way (twitter, instagram, g+ etc) with icons.

  5. That is a lovely theme, and like you say, very easy to read. I really need to update my blog, but it’s finding the time to do it. 🙁
