The Secret in Their Eyes (13/08/11)

A retired legal counselor writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unrequited love with his superior – both of which still haunt him decades later.

There are some films which leave you feeling a little bit wobbly as soon as the credits come rolling. The Secret in Their Eyes is definitely one of them. You’re led to believe that this will be your standard thriller/mystery film with a man trying to solve a long cold case. In the last third of the film, you’re treated to so much more.

The characters are real and endearing. The story feels equally as real, which probably makes some of it a little hard to watch.

The last half hour of the film floored me. Not that anything was completely unsurprising, just how things unraveled. Truly a brilliant film.
