Not family viewing

TV

With my parents living abroad, I don’t get to see them all too often. So it’s nice when they come over and stay for a few weeks. I don’t have to worry about what I’m going to have to cook for my own dinner every night. The house gets miraculously cleaned on its own. There are some definite perks.

However, the one thing I do struggle with is TV. I am currently watching an awful lot of TV. With the new Fall season well under-way, that list is growing. Don’t worry, there aren’t fights over the TV remote. (However my tolerance levels for Coronation Street have dropped dramatically.) But, there are some things I just don’t find comfortable watching with my parents…

It’s those cable shows that I just can’t watch with my parents! The likes of The Borgias, Big Love, The Sopranos, The Wire, Carnivale, Strike Back: Project Dawn are no-go for family viewing for me. They’re not flesh-a-paloozas. But there’s always the off-chance that there’s going to be one hell of a scene that’s going to leave the atmosphere in the living room quiet and full of chirping crickets.

Yes, I’m a grown up. No, my parents aren’t prudes. But you know what? It’s just a little bit uncomfortable to even attempt to watch any of those with the parents. I can’t be alone on this.

  1. I wouldn’t even ATTEMPT to watch that kind of thing with parents. When we were younger we had to change channels when a kissing scene came on Eastenders! So, you’re not alone!
