For the past couple of days, on and off, I’ve been trying to work on Thirteen7’s website design. Since the weather went downhill I’ve been finding it harder to motivate myself. Bring back the sun!
Anywho, here’s a little sneak peek at the opening page of the website. It’s only a clip of the whole page. Don’t want to give it all away. Not yet!
I was a bit nervous about the colour scheme and the direction I was going in for the look and feel. But, I’m really liking it now. I was worried about the green and red colour combination. But my fears have been abated.
There’s still a lot to do – designs for the other pages, what it’ll look like when scaled down, etc. But it feels good that it’s going forward.
After a couple of weeks happily being able to open up Photoshop and get stuck in, letting my creative juices loose, I finally hit that block. Designer’s Block. And I hit it hard.
Today, I’ve just struggled. Yesterday, I thought I was going to struggle to think of a logo for my upcoming freelance design company, but it just came to me and I was happy with what I managed to produced. Today my plan was to come up with the website for my new company and it just wasn’t coming to me.
Trying to work through the Block
I’d jotted down a loose brief for myself. What sections I need, what the purpose of the website is. Just by writing a few things down (with traditional pen and paper) usually helps me get into the mindset of what I need to do. I drew a rough sketch of what I wanted the homepage to look like. Time for a bit of dabbling in Photoshop.
Getting some inspiration
Again, I struggled. So I went back to the trusty Internet. Headed over to Media Queries and Dribble for a little bit of inspiration.
Finally, something helped! I re-drew my rough sketch and feel like I’m finally onto something.
(Just waiting for the inevitable to happen tomorrow – open up my rough sketch and decide I hate it all over again.)
Today has been a day spent getting the faff-y stuff completed when it comes to going freelance and starting your own business. So I’d like you to say hello to Thirteen7, my new web design company.
I’ve been working on this logo today so that I can get some headed paper and business cards sorted. It’s been all about getting the uber official important stuff done today. Like applying for a business account, creating a timesheet and invoice template and looking into getting business insurance.
The domain name for this little business venture had to be secured just so I could make sure I had the right things on my headed paper.
(You just knew that my logo was going to have red in it somewhere, right?)
