100 movies of 2010

A couple more movies to add to the list.

Children of Men (13/02/10)
A movie that’s sat on my ‘to-watch’ list for a very, very long time. I’m a bit sad that I missed out on seeing this at the cinema – big screen and all. Very good movie and out of movies set in the future with a bleak take on it, this feels like one of the bleakest! Where fertility’s an issue and the population of the planet is just declining to an inevitable end. I like my sci-fi movies to not always look so glossy so I loved the look of this movie. Made the bleak future look all the worse. I was surprised by Clive Owen. In most of the movies he’s in he just looks so blank and that he’s just phoning it in. He was good. I don’t want to give away any major spoilers here, so I’ll just say – good movie, people should watch.
Rating: 4/5

We Own the Night (14/02/10)
I haven’t watched any cheery movies this weekend, that’s for sure. This didn’t exactly have the happiest subject matter either. Joaquin Phoenix before he went all mad and beardy – he was really very good. As was the rest of the cast – Mark Wahlberg and Robert Duvall. On the surface of this movie it’s about drugs, police and crime, but underpinning it all is a movie about family and what family do for each other, no matter what’s happened in the past. Which is the one part of the movie which got me through the movie. In the beginning I wasn’t feeling it too much, but as it got more into the characters, I got sucked in. Very good movie.
Rating: 3/5

    • It really does. I just liked the whole look of this movie. I forgot it was Alfonso Cuaron who directed it. I like his stuff!
