Time out for a sunset

Sunset in Bahrain

What is it about sunsets that make you stop whatever you’re doing just to admire them? It’s not as if they’re a rare occurrence. The sun sets every day. And they’ll never be a day when it doesn’t set.

So today, I was working away. It was nearing sunset. The entire day has been a cloudy and overcast. A little unusual for Bahrain at this time of year. Very unusual actually. While working, I like to take a break every couple of hours, just for a few minutes. Stretch my legs, get some water, and maybe get some fresh air on the balcony. Yeah, I really, really like working from home.

Happy World Photography Day 2015!

Photography

It’s 2015’s World Photography Day today and I’m using it as an excuse reason to post some of my favourite photos I’ve taken this year.

Photography is something I enjoy. A lot. I can get lost in it. Working forever to get that perfect shot of whatever it is I’m trying to capture. I’m by no means anything but a very amateur hobbyist with the will to grow my knowledge by just taking photos.

This post is a reminder. A reminder to myself to just keep taking photos. Photos of the every day. No matter what it is. Even if it’s not deemed shareable. I’ve fallen back on the excuse of just being home all the time to not take photos. Because they won’t be interesting. But the only way I’m going to keep on learning is to keep taking photos. Keep practicing. Keep learning.

Bahrain Sunset

The sunsets in Bahrain are some of the prettiest I have ever seen. Pretty feels like a terrible word to describe them, but sometimes that’s the only word I can muster. Or gorgeous. Which feels just as bad. But they really are.

From both our balcony and bedroom windows, we don’t get a view of the sunset. Only sunrise, which neither of us are ever awake for! The few times I’ve randomly been near a window in that sunset time and I’ve seen something magical, I usually run like a mad woman to my camera and see if I can get some sort of vantage point from the flat. But I can’t. And I’m still on the clock!

So one evening we decide to go to Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Park basically at sunset, I’m ready with my camera. We can see this park from our flat. In fact, our building’s probably in this shot somewhere. Probably.

The sunset didn’t fail me. Yet again.

Apologies for yet another sunset photo. This one’s a wee bit different to the previous two though. For one thing, it’s England. Secondly, it’s got those dreaded net curtains in. Which I don’t get. Yes. I have them in my house. But they’re really not all that attractive. Sure they give a bit of privacy. But, I reiterate, they are ugly.

Though… they’re cheap compared to getting some blinds. Very cheap. I’ll take that.
