All the futzing in the world won’t fix it

Apologies. I’ve been futzing around with the layout here a lot. (If you find anything broken, please let me know.)

It’s just hit me why I’m just not happy, no matter how much futzing around I do. I didn’t make this layout myself and therefore no matter what I do, nothing’s just to how I like it. And yet, it’s been well over a year since I had this blog and my promise to myself of making my own theme hasn’t been fulfilled.

Pre-made WordPress themes are a bit of a cop-out. As a web designer, I feel a little dirty using a pre-made theme. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very nice theme. I wouldn’t be using it if it wasn’t! But it’s not mine. I don’t instinctively know which classes to go and edit if I want to make minor changes. It’s all a bit trickier when you’re weaving your way through someone else’s CSS.

One day. One day I’ll get around to it.

  1. Futzing is my new favourite word.

And this is most definitely a beautiful theme and I love seeing it every time I visit your blog, though I know what you mean. Having to navigate through someone else’s code is never fun. I think the only reason I haven’t used a pre-made theme, because even though I know they’re a million times prettier than my attempts, I’m too much of a control freak. I like to know where everything is when I need to edit things.

But yeah, this theme? Teh pretty <3

    • I’m a control freak too. I think I fiddle with some aspect of the layout here at least once a day! I just can’t help it!

Futz is a good, solid word. Needs to be added to the dictionary.
