Help me out in 2012!

Photo Challenges

Next year I want to do another photo challenge. Back in 2010 I successfully managed to do a 365 project. Didn’t miss a single day for the entire year. My attempt this year was really quite pathetic. I didn’t last long at all. But after I gave up I realised that I missed taking photos every day. I missed having my camera with me and taking snaps. Also, in that 1 year of dong the 365 project, I learnt so much about using my camera. Don’t think you can ever stop learning.

A few months back I did a 30 day photo challenge, which I really enjoyed doing. I think the fact that it felt like a fairly short and realistically do-able project made it feel a little easier to do.

It dawned on me today that December’s this week and 2012 is just around the corner. I’m trying to think of some sort of photo challenge to do next year and I can’t think of anything. I’m not too keen on doing another 365, though I think if I did, I’d need to theme the months somehow. Just to give myself a bit more of an aim for my photos. Or maybe not even a photo a day. But some other regular interval…

So, has anyone got any ideas for what I could potentially do for 2012’s photo challenge?

  1. Hi Jaina

I’ve been wanting to team up with like-minded people to do photo challenges. In my work I photograph people a lot, and I love it. But I would so love to have the opportunity to focus on photographing other things sometimes. And I think photo challenges are great for this.

If you’re up for it, I’d like to do an “alphabet soup” one, where for 26 days we take photos of objects which resemble the letters A – Z. As you can image, sometimes we’ll have to be a bit creative with our objects, but it sounds fun to me and I’m sure it will help get our creativity going. What do you think?

Here’s an example of a set of “alphabet soup” images.

I am so excited just thinking about it 🙂

    • Hi Mui!

That sounds like a fun project! Challenging, but fun. At the moment I can think of objects for the letters O, I, C and possibly S. But that’s it!

You know what, count me in. It sounds hard and challenging, but it wouldn’t be a photo challenge without some proper effort being needed to do it.

Would it have to be 26 consecutive days?

Getting excited thinking about this now 😀 Great idea!

      • Glad you’re joining in! You’re absolutely right. A good challenge should require some effort, and stretch our imagination a bit. Otherwise it won’t be a challenge.

As to whether it has to be 26 consecutive days or not, I think since it’s our challenge, we are the bosses. We make up our own rules. We could stipulate that, for example, we do the alphabet soup challenge in January 2012, and we finish by 31 Jan.

I hesitate to suggest we do it in Dec since it’s a busy time for all. But if you want to do it, I’m up for it!

        Let me know.

        • I think I’ll need December to get myself ready for January’s challenge. Totally up for doing it for Jan 2012 – bring it!

          • Great! Alphabet soup for Jan 2012 it is then. I’m excited. Will speak to you before then. In the meantime I’ll be keeping my eyes my letters 🙂

            • I’ve tried to look out for letters. So far it’s been easy to see Os, Us, Ns Ls and Is! That’s it! Beginning to feel a little scared now!

  2. I’ve never done any photo challenges so my ideas are somewhat lacking. That said, a different challenge for each month might be fun?

    • Each month having a different theme would definitely make it easier. I’m wondering if I need to take a photo a day for some themes and then maybe some be weekly ones. I know that’s stretching a 365 project, but it’s my rules damnit! Hehe.

      • Let me know if you do go for a different challenge each month. If time allows I’ll join in. I think it’s a great way to keep fresh.

        • Join away! I find it’s easier if there are other people trying to accomplish something similar to you. Makes it easier and almost like having a support group! I’ll post something up about brainstorming some monthly challenges for next year 😀
