100 movies: Ca$h

100 movies of 2012

Every year I set myself a target, usually of about 100, of films to watch. These are new films. Not new, new films. But films that are new to me. Any time I’ve seen a new one, I post a bit of a brain dump of my thoughts on the film here. Enjoy!

Ca$hCa$h (05/05/12)

A man meets up with two “good guys” to recover what is unlawfully his, taking them on his whirlwind ride, doing things they never would have imagined, just to survive.

I feel like this film needs another admission from me. I’m on a bit of a Chris Hemsworth kick. This popped up on Sky Movies. Along with added Sean Bean, I figured, this might be ok.

Well, I was wrong. It’s advertised as a thriller, but there’s nothing thrilling about it. The score music is completely distracting and doesn’t feel like it belongs. A little bit like Sean Bean’s hair. I couldn’t help but stare and think WTF.

Sean Bean’s a funny thing. See, in his TV roles, he’s brilliant! Aside from Goldeneye, I can’t remember a single film role of his I’ve liked. He seems to play the same old Brit bad guy. Boring! And ever so slightly painful to watch.

Bless Chris Hemsworth here. His Aussie twang is very, very present. It’s amazing to actually see how far he’s come, in terms of his acting. He was far from impressive here. Maybe it was also a combination of his role. It just didn’t suit him.

Overall, a very boring ‘thriller’. I should have known something was up with a title like Ca$h – symbols instead of letters is never a good sign! Just skip it. Even if you’re on a Chris Hemsworth kick like I was!

  1. Did Sean Bean’s character die in this? His characters always die. And also, how could you not like him as Boromir in Lord of the Rings?

  2. Chris Hemsworth AND Sean Bean! How could it be bad?? ๐Ÿ˜€ Ah well, that is terrible that the director somehow made a boring movie with these two. Thanks for the warning Jaina.

  3. This seems like a fun little affair if you enjoy campy action/thriller movies. I am curious, what was the budget for this film? Chris Hemsworth looks so mature now compared to in this movie poster!

    • Think the budget must have been pretty tiny. 3 main cast members, at the time, only one of which was a sort of well known name. A lot of the film takes place in one set.

Chris Hemsworth was so young and fresh in this. Bless him.

  4. Never heard of this one. I couldn’t even tell that was Sean Bean in that image — it’s almost surreal seeing him with a hairdo like that. Sounds like a real dud.

  5. Oooh OUCH!!

I have not ever heard of this film, and now I know why!! SOunds shocking. Fair Play m’lady for getting through it

    • It was touch and go. I think the only film I’ve ever stopped watching was Vicky Christina Barcelona. I was *this* close to switching off this one. God knows why I thought it would get better!

    • Love that you don’t have to watch it to know that! Sean Bean’s got a great legacy there ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Lots of terrible flick you are watching as of late Jaina lol ๐Ÿ™‚ No interest in ever checking this out. Life’s too short.

    • I know! I don’t know why I’m putting myself through these. It’s not as if I don’t have better ones to watch. Must do better, life IS too short!
