100 movies: Super Troopers

100 movies of 2012
Every year I set myself a target, usually of about 100, of films to watch. These are new films. Not new, new films. But films that are new to me. Any time I’ve seen a new one, I post a bit of a brain dump of my thoughts on the film here. Enjoy!

So, I’m up to 81 films. It’s the end of November. I have 19 films to watch between now and the end of the year. The end of the year that’s in 33 days. If I’m doing my maths correctly, that means I have to watch 1.7 films every day to get to my goal. Sadly, I can’t see that happening. But I will keep going and just see how many films I can squeeze in. I blame a few things – my need to rewatch Buffy and the new TV season. Damn you for taking up my precious film watching time!

Super TroopersSuper Troopers (22/11/12)

Five Vermont state troopers, avid pranksters with a knack for screwing up, try to save their jobs and out-do the local police department by solving a crime.

Super Troopers is the sort of film you put on to watch and just let it amuse you. It’s not high brow comedy. It’s pretty low brow. But who cares? I wanted to get entertained and that’s exactly what Super Troopers did.

The plot for Super Troopers is predictable enough. Again, I don’t think the film goes out there to try to be a smart plot twister of a film. Local police vs. the Super Troopers. Gags are aplenty with that rivalry. Sure some of the characters are a bit slapstick. But they still tickle that funny bone. I think there’s been some comparison to Police Academy, but it’s nowhere near in the same vein. More along the lines of Office Space. Though, with a slightly lower IQ.

Shocked when I saw Brian Cox appear. Honestly. He is one of the last actors I’d have expected to see in this film. Wasn’t totally convinced he could do funny. I was convinced by the end of the film. Especially one of the last scenes at the airfield.

It’s a good comedy. Quite a few laughs. Well, quite a lot really. And I am left wanting to see if I can do the ‘meow challenge’.
Rating: 3/5

  1. Looking at that cover it’s already obvious this is a low brow comedy. Never heard of it, but it seems worth watching if you really want to switch off your brain 😉

  2. 🙂 Taking goals to watch in a year sometimes can feel like a work. I choose not to, because I can’t predict my routinity. But this seems to me not the kind of movie I’ll be prioritizing. Like Nostra said, this looks like a light movie

  3. This movie is one of my guilty pleasures. You know…it’s one of those movies that you are embarrassed to say that you really like. Yep, this movie is one of them. I don’t know why. I guess because when I first saw this movie, I was in high school. So, my taste in movies weren’t that sophisticated (LOL) as it is right now.

I agree with you. The movie plot is super predictable.

Girl! You are almost at 100! You can do it!

    • You gotta be able to appreciate a really stupid film every now and then is the way I see it!

Almost, but I don’t think I can make it this year!

  4. Your math is off (or your phrasing is, one or the other 🙂 ). You have your terms reversed. You have to watch 1 film every 1.7 days (i.e., 0.58 films per day). Which might still be tight, depending on your other activities, but it’s at least a little more conceivable. 😉

    • And this is why I should give me posts a good read before I hit publish!

Yeah, somehow, don’t think it’s going to happen. First time I’ve not been able to make 100!

  5. Heh, I haven’t seen this in years, but I have a soft spot for it. Was one of my go-to movies back in high school.

    • Seems to be a couple of people’s go-to movie back in high school. I hadn’t even heard about it til I gave it a watch.
