The films I need to see

Thank you to all of you who were so generous and gave me some film recommendations when I asked. I’ve updated my list and it is ridiculously long. But I am determined to make a dent in this epic list!

Of course this isn’t the kind of thing I’m going to put an end date on. But, I will keep track of it and make more of an effort to see some of these films rather than any old tat. Which I am guilty of doing.

Oh and if you have any more recommendations, I’ll be more than happy yo keep adding them.

Wish me luck!

  1. Oh, God. Who told you to see Godfather part III?

You have the opportunity to not make that mistake. Watch I and II and then pretend III doesnt exist. Seriously. ๐Ÿ˜€ DONT DO IT TO YOURSELF JAINA!!

Aside from that, there’s a lot of great stuff on the list, you’re going to have a great time whittling it down!

    • I was going to try and be a completest! So you say no? If you say no, then it is getting crossed right off the list.

Feels like I’m getting schooled in filmage. Love it ๐Ÿ˜€

        • Brik is right, we have to scour our minds of it!

But really, the worst part of GFIII is it practically DFEINES an unnecessary sequel.

Godfather II has the most perfect ending I’ve ever seen in my life, ever. It makes both movies just seem so perfect, and about a character journey…

GFIII comes around and destroys that.

I and II and then stop there, and if you can send a message back through time to 20 yr old Dan and tell him that too, please do! ๐Ÿ˜€

          • Ok, it has been un- ceremonially kicked off the list.

I’ll do my best to get the message to your past-self Dan. I’ll speak of the horror future-Dan tells me about.

  2. Now here are the ones from the list you REALLY need to see:

    12 Angry Men

    Schindlerโ€™s List

    To Kill a Mockingbird

    Citizen Kane

    The Godfather

    The Godfather: Part II

    JFK

    Vertigo

    2001: A Space Odyssey

    Lost in Translation

    Casablanca

  3. Ooooh, Mulholland Drive! Watch this one first it’s really a wonderful movie. Which Solaris is it on the list? They are both excellent, despite all the hate for Soderbergh’s movie.

    • I’ve got the Steven Soderbergh version on the list, do you think it’s worth watching both?

I’m going to have to put up a poll to ask you guys which one to watch first… !

      • First one is more close to the book and is widely considered to be classic sci-fi. Soderbergh’s version is more of a romance, without additional plots and characters from the book – they are very different movies but I think both of them are excellent. I’d first see the older one, since it digs a bit more in the story.

  4. Oh wow, that’s quite the list! Lots of great choices, good variety… can’t wait to see what you think of some of these!

  5. Wow what a list! I wish I could go back in time and watch a few of those for the first time again.

    United 93
    Requiem for a Dream
    28 Days Later
    Trainspotting
    La Haine
    Schindlerโ€™s List
    City of God

are the ones I’m most excited to hear your thoughts on. A lot of very depressing stuff I’m afraid. Lots there I still need to see too. Good luck!

    • It’s funny, I’ve listened to the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack loads. It’s just brilliant, but haven’t seen the film! Crazy times.

I will be sure to follow up anything depressing with a big wallop of fun.

  6. That is some list! Where to start? Well, why not at the top with my of my personal favourites – 12 Angry Men.

    • I haven’t been able to find that one on Sky, which I’m relying on to get through most of this list, but will jump on it as soon as it’s there. Making the most of my Anytime+!

    • I fully anticipate this list to grow. In fact, I think I want it to. Just so I can avoid any craptastic films in my 100 movie challenge!

  7. Woooow, epic list. Best of luck Jaina! I can’t wait ’til you see To Kill a Mockingbird and Roman Holiday, two of Gregory’s best ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. Fantastic list!!!!

La Haine just came out on Criterion BluRay. I am pretty excited.

Butch Cassidy a personal fave of mine ๐Ÿ™‚

Vertigo left me scratching my head on initial viewing but I have grown to love the film. The location has a lot to do with it I think.

Jacob’s Ladder – I saw this once and that was enough. It disturbed me so. But definitely worth a see.

    • Thank you! It’s all the sorts of films I know I should see and I know the only way I’ll actually see it is if I make a list. Looking forward to getting suck into all of them.

  9. Sweet! I can see some of my Asian horror recommendations are on your list. Girl, I hope you enjoy them. If not, I’m so sorry.

I’m totally debating on doing my own 100 movies….we’ll see. The more I read your blog, the stronger my desire gets.

    • I’ve seen some Asian horror in the past, likes of Battle Royale, The Ring, The Grudge and really enjoyed them. So sure I will!

If you do decide to do a 100 movie challenge, count me as a personal cheerleader to get you to your goal!

  10. Can I add three more? 2001, 2001, and 2001! Would you not be curious to see Godfather 3 having watched the first two? It’s nowhere near as good, but it finishes everything off.

    • Ahhh! And here I had nearly forgotten about that one. I’ll go and add it! Though, feel a bit terrified about watching it considering a lot of people compared Tree of Life to it and I really did not like that film! But I will give it a go ๐Ÿ˜€

Depends how I’m feeling about Godfather I and II and I feel like I NEED to complete the trilogy. I’ve been warned off it so much though!

  11. Nice to see you added Papillon, hope you like it!

Lots of classics here. The Maltese Falcon and Double Indemnity are two I have yet to watch…

    • Lots of classics I feel like I ought to see as a film fan. Very looking forward to getting stuck in.

  12. Once you start a project like this there really is no end!
I highly recommend 12 Angry Men and La Haine from your list and as I don’t want to burden you with too many other recommendations, off the top of my head I’ll throw in Flesh and Bone and Two-Lane Blacktop.

    Good luck!

    • Cheers Paul!

Yep, I don’t think I’ll ever really be finished with this list. It’ll just keep growing!

I’ll be sure to add those two films when I next update ๐Ÿ™‚
