Film score pick of the mo: X-Men: Days of Future Past

Completely and utterly enjoyed X-Men: Days of Future Past. I might still be trying to reconcile the ramifications of the film on past X-Men films. But I’m dealing with that.

For the ‘revamped’ X-Men films’ second outing, John Ottman has taken the reigns on the scoring duties. Personally, I really, really enjoyed Henry Jackman’s score for First Class. Which is probably a big reason why I’ve chosen the track I have as my favourite pick of the bunch.

While I’m not overly fond of the soundtrack album as a whole – it feels too ‘soundtracky’ and very your typical comic book film sort of score. Sure, it’s great to hear the theme from X-Men 2 again, but I really liked that Henry Jackman took us away from that with the score for First Class.

So that’s why Hope is my track of choice. It’s using the main theme from First Class and is just a really beautiful piano piece. For that reason it stood out for me, against all of the other tracks. Which are very loud and scream ACTION ACTION ACTION. Mostly.

What’s your favourite soundtrack of the mo?

  1. I also loved the Henry Jackman score for First Class. So much, especially the sub-lift sequence and the training sequence. It reminded me a little of Steve Jablonsky who is my favorite film composer. I wasn’t as impressed with the score for DOFP, thought I loved the movie itself.

    • The training sequence that Henry Jackman scored was perfect! Definitely one of my favourites from that score too.

Think you and me feel the same about the score for this one too. It was just no where near as impressive as Henry Jackman’s work and didn’t give us anything new. The film, though yes, was very good!
