Happy World Photography Day 2015!

Photography

It’s 2015’s World Photography Day today and I’m using it as an excuse reason to post some of my favourite photos I’ve taken this year.

Photography is something I enjoy. A lot. I can get lost in it. Working forever to get that perfect shot of whatever it is I’m trying to capture. I’m by no means anything but a very amateur hobbyist with the will to grow my knowledge by just taking photos.

This post is a reminder. A reminder to myself to just keep taking photos. Photos of the every day. No matter what it is. Even if it’s not deemed shareable. I’ve fallen back on the excuse of just being home all the time to not take photos. Because they won’t be interesting. But the only way I’m going to keep on learning is to keep taking photos. Keep practicing. Keep learning.

Project 365 – 2015: July Recap

Project 365

Blogging wise, July has been a lazy month. Unintentionally lazy. There are a whirl of ideas for posts in my head. But I can’t seem to get them down here. Call it some sort of mental block. Or just call it what it is – laziness!

At the beginning of July I was in a whole other country on a whole other continent. The beginning of the month saw the tail end of my trip to see my folks in Portugal.

Portugal - my second home

Portugal – my home away from home

Mentioning to anyone that my parents live in Portugal confuses the heck out of whomever decided to ask. They’ll look at me and, if they’ve just met me, wonder whether I’m from Portugal. But my name’s not really European. So what gives? (Things get really confusing when they ask where my parents are from and I say East Africa…)

The long and short of it, my parents have (semi) retired in Portugal. For as long as I can remember, every year, we’d be in Portugal at least twice a year for holidays. Usually the same place by the sea. After years or living and working in London, who wouldn’t want to live where there’s infinitely more sunshine?

June Project 365

Project 365 – 2015: June Recap

Project 365

This June recap is a little late. We’re definitely well into the second week of July. The last couple of weeks of June blitzed by with travel plans and then eventual said travelling.

While I struggled a little bit in May for my 365 project, I think things picked up a little bit more in June. It’s still tricky. When you reach the half way point, and you are running out of things in the home and on your day-to-day routine to take photos of. You’re forced to be a bit more creative. Or just dig around more in the cupboards and closets for things to take photos of.

It’s a random mid-week update

Life

A big part of me wishes I could stick to some sort blogging schedule. Mid-week updates. Friday updates. Beginning of the week updates. Anything. But, they’d be a bit pointless. My every day life isn’t interesting enough to be blogging about.

This random mid-week update is brought to you with something that is definitely more interesting that the everyday routine. I’m off to Portugal tonight! I’ve got 10 hours of flying to get me to Lisbon with another couple of hours in the car to get me home. Well, mum and dad’s home.

This trip to Portugal’s a bit impromptu. See, I’ve been invited to speak at an Mediapost’s Email Insider Summit in Portugal. I remember seeing emails about this conference, thinking how great it’d be to be able to go seeing as it’s only half an hour away from mum and dad. And now I’m going!
